My life has followed many paths – teacher, faux finish artisan, nonprofit founder, entrepreneur, consultant, graphic designer, website developer. I moved from San Francisco to Kolkata in 1999 and have lived in Asia for more than two decades. I’m currently a resident of Vientiane, the rapidly developing capital of Laos. Photography, travel, reading, cooking, gardening, art and insects are my main interests.
After traveling to India for several years I returned to volunteer in Kolkata – this was truly a turning point in my life. I returned to Kolkata with my husband to start Uddami, a project that helps young people from poor communities learn tech skills. We spent thirteen years in Kolkata and then turned the project over to our very capable staff, all former students, who continue the work we started. You can find out more about Uddami here: https://uddamiindiafoundation.org
Through teaching tech skills I discovered that I had a talent for design – I create websites and graphics that can be characterized as practical / elegant / simple. I listen closely to my clients and work with them to transform their ideas into something not only useful but beautiful as well. I encourage clients to learn how to update their own websites and I’m happy to teach skills that eventually make me unnecessary.
